Not long in the past my driving job took me along a roadway which ran alongside a steel roadway and as always when this happens the photographer within is intrigued. Driving along the roadway and watching the steel rails with one eye I soon came upon a line of box and flatcars which is a common sight except on this day something usual awaited.
I turn off the road stopping the Scion in a safe place near the rail line I ready the camera, which is always with me you never know. Expecting to be accosted by rail police oozing from behind power poles flashing badges and carrying blood stained clubs I peacefully walk along well used shining steel rails stopping within inches of the Union Pacific cars. From a note in the upper left-hand corner of the the boxcar it passed through Dunsmuir, Ca near the Burger Barn attached to this car are flatcars loaded with track maintenance vehicles and on one the ultimate in portable relief centers. I could not resist recording for posterity. (see photos below).
