steps in the direction of nowhere

i have climbed through stone foundations of long past industry and so enjoy the mystery piecing together what once was, a recent discover that tickles the mind: sidewalks once taking the punishment of many a leather shoe today encroaching grass, weeds slowly consume but there is a twist.

whilst on a late evening walk after work getting in a good stretch of the ol’ props in one of my favorite spots in vancouver, fort vancouver, i come across a sidewalk sort of stairway however, there is no foundation in front of or behind these concrete slabs on the parade grounds near the vancouver barracks.  what gives?

steps to???
the concrete steps to and from the past, how far past, where did they lead? come from? why?

nature slowly covers the past

downhill steps
what took place here along these steps? did boy and girl hold hands walking down these steps in fading summer warmth, did both experience a first kiss under this tree? did majors and colonels share conversation about pending orders or a battle in some far off part of the world? has retired, aged military man paused on these steps recalling the glory days when horseback was the only mode of transport? was his wife at his side? where these steps just dug into the ground for show? surely, these were not to make the climb up a slight incline easier?

did a private, whilst strolling grounds one evening, so deep in thought of the gril he missed stumbled down this incline, lift himself up, then whilst brushing himself off gaze over the ground staring a moment, SNAP!, rushes off to his colenel’s office with the great idea of building a short flight of steps down by the tree!  “good job private i see a long and fruitful military career for you.”

or maybe a construction crew has left over concrete and instead of disposing of it they approach some bigwig of the fort, “Hey how would you like to spruce up dem parade grounds near that oak !”

bigwig:  “great idea.  it will look as if i am concerned about the grounds appearance.  here have yourself a cigar.”

construction crew:  “gee thanks, aaaa should we start with the pouring?”

I enjoy photography, writing, walking, nature, reading, and of course the coooolest game on earth HOCKEY! I took up photography in 9th grade and seeing the world in a different light wanting to, of course, photograph everything, unfortunately not everything comes out the way I'd like.
