after a long day of merchandising my daily evening stroll took me to a favorite park in vancouver where an actual ship’s anchor is displayed that was recovered from the columbia river reportingly dating back to the mid-1800’s. the late evening sun, an easy breeze set my mind a wandering as to who constructed this anchor and what a typical day in the anchor assembly building may have been like:

“aye matey”
“aye matey, how goes the day?”
“fantastic matey. we almost have the anchor complete”
“aye she’ looking good”
“aye matey the shank and arm took some pounding and heat but the maties in the foundry room came through”
“aye”
“the mates working on the wood stock though are having a difficult time shaping the darn thing. do you realize that tried multiple types of wood, testing and retesting until they stumbled on oak.”
“aye matey ya dont say”
“aye”
“by the way matey, how’s the hands?”
“relieved, matey relieved.”
“aye”
